Distribution

The City of Boerne's natural gas is purchased from West Texas Gas, which is delivered to purchase points south of the City along Interstate 10 and southwest of the City on Scenic Loop Road.

From the City’s purchase points, the gas pressure is reduced to 50 pounds per square inch (psi) around the southern portion of our distribution network. The pressure is then reduced to 25 psi for the portion of the distribution network within the central portion of town. Regulators located adjacent to each customer's meter, further reduces the pressure according to the needs of the customer.

The City of Boerne provides natural gas to more than 3,000 customers through a network of underground distribution lines. Main gas lines branch into household service lines. The pipes are typically made of "caution yellow" plastic or tar-coated steel which helps prevent corrosion. As an industry standard, steel pipes are being replaced with the more durable plastic piping. The main lines are typically 2-inches in diameter and are located roughly 3-feet below the surface, while the service lines are typically half-inch to one inch in diameter and buried 18 to 24 inches below the surface. The gas distribution system serves customers both inside and outside the City’s limits.
