With cooler weather beginning to hit the Texas Hill Country, outdoor tours are becoming more and more pleasant to take. I had the opportunity to go on a Hill Country Food Tour and get a first-hand experience! Curious what it’s all about and what to expect on YOUR tour? We have the details!
Hill Country Food Tours has been in Boerne for about two years now, and they really pack a lot into each tour! This tour is a combination of sampling restaurants around Boerne’s historic downtown and a fun history lesson on Boerne as well!
Our Stops
Our tour began by getting acquainted with our friendly, knowledgeable tour guide, Marjorie, and our tour mates! We met at the “Father Gander” duck statue that sits across the street from our first sampling stop (out of 8 total) at the Dodging Duck Brewhaus located at River Road Park. Following that, the Cibolo Creek Brewing Co., Cypress Grille, Peggy’s on the Green, The Dienger Trading Co., Boerne Grill/Daily Grind, 259 Brantley’s Bistro and Bear Moon Bakery were all on the list of stops for this (very filling) Hill Country Food Tour!
Our Walk
As we moseyed along from stop to stop, Marjorie filled us in with knowledge of Boerne’s historic buildings and the families that started our charming town. We had time for perusing through the shops along Boerne’s Hill Country Mile, and we even got a couple extra sample tastings in at Boerne Epicure and Fickle Pickles! We passed through other food establishments and breweries – just enough to make us want to come back for more Hill Country Mile exploration!
Tips For Future Tourists
Here are a few tips for your tour! Be sure to:
- Come HUNGRY! Marjorie does provide a tall, cold bottle of water (with a cute koozie you can take as a souvenir…yippee!) so that everyone stays hydrated as you walk.
- Wear your walking shoes!
- Dress for the weather and wear sunscreen.
- If you have dietary restrictions, FEAR NOT! There are alternatives for anyone who has food restrictions—including non-alcoholic beverages and gluten free food items.
- Take and post your tasty food pics! Tag us on Instagram at @visitboerne. You never know when your photos may get reposted.
In the Works
Seasonal tasting tours are on the horizon for Hill Country Food Tours! Their regular tour is so popular, that even those who have taken it before will have an opportunity to get a taste of seasonal menu items from a few of Boerne’s restaurants. Keep an ear out for those tours on their website!
